The Government of India started NCC in 1917 a scheme of voluntary military training amongst the students and named it as University Corps and replaced by University Training Corps (UTC) in 1920. The designation was changed in 1942 to the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC). The UOTC became “National Cadet Corps” (NCC) on the fourth Sunday of November 1948. This day is traditionally celebrated as NCC Day.
The National Cadet Corps is a youth development movement. It has enormous potential for nation building. The NCC provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their all-round development with a sense of Duty, Commitment, Dedication, Discipline and Moral values so that they become able leaders and useful citizens. The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities, with distinct emphasis on Social services, Discipline and Adventure Training and Leadership Training.
